The bighorn sheep is the official emblem of Rancho Mirage. These animals are native to Rancho Mirage's Santa Rosa Mountains and are protected by law. The city is nicknamed "the playground of the presidents." Rancho Mirage has been synonymous as the residence of President Ford and his wife Betty, as well as a destination spot for other US presidents. It is a favorite with the Hollywood crowd and not unusual to see them out and about the city. From the real estate perspective the city boasts resort-style living with its prestigious country club homes and picturesque condominiums, many with view of the Santa Rosa mountains and golf courses designed by Pete Dye, Arnold Palmer and Pete Robinson.

Entertainment in Rancho Mirage is not limited to golf. The Children's Discovery Museum of the Desert provides not only learning activities but great fun for its visitors. Terrific shopping can be found. One popular, upscale spot is The River. This is THE shopping spot for shopping, eating, outdoor concerts, art shows and strolling.
Excellent medical care is available in Rancho Mirage. Eisenhower Medical Center (one of the top 100 US hospitals) is located here as is the internationally acclaimed Betty Ford Center for the treatment of substance abuse.
