COACHELLA, CA

Coachella is considered to be the Gateway to the Salton Sea and is one of the youngest developed cities in the valley and currently undergoing rapid development. It is a good value for those wishing to purchase a home with many of the valley's younger folks moving into the city.

Coachella, along with its neighbors, Thermal and Mecca, encompass 70,000 acres of land that benefits from irrigation provided by the Colorado River using a canal system. This irrigation provides for healthy agricultural output. Grapes, citrus fruits, artichokes, corn, carrots, peppers and dates.  Note that it is said that 95% of the our nation's date crop production comes from this region.

The NAFTA Highway (Hwy. 86) is located in what is considered to be the downtown section of Coachella.  The road is heavily traveled by tractor-trailer trucks going to the Mexican border and other southern markets benefiting businesses that cater to road traffic.

Current plans for the region exposé the restoration of the Salton Sea and surrounding area (about 30 miles from Coachella). The city anticipates future growth should this project materialize making agriculture and tourism a viable source of income for the local residents.
